Flag of Niger

The Flag of Niger was adopted on November 23, 1959.  The flag contains three horizontal bands colored orange, white and green with a red disk in the center of the white band.   The disk on the center band represents the sun as well as independence.  The orange on the top horizontal band symbolizes the Sahara Desert to the north of the country.  The white band on the center of the flag symbolizes purity and is also believed to represent the Niger River.  The green at the bottom represents hope and the fertile regions of Niger.
