The Latvian flag contains two red bands separated by a white band.  The red on the flag is believed to represent the Latvians preparation to give blood from their hearts for freedom and their readiness to defend their freedom.   The Latvian flag has been around since the 13th century and was officially adopted in 1922.  During the Soviet rule the flag was suppressed from use but after regaining its independence the Latvians re adopted their flag on February 27, 1990.
