Flag of Iowa

The flag of Iowa was adopted in 1921.  The flag contains three vertical bands colored blue, white and red.  In the center is an eagle with a long ribbon that says “Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain”. Under the ribbon is the words “Iowa”.  The flag is similar to that of France symbolizing its past history as being part of the French Louisiana Territory.
